Week 5 Stream Team

Every week is a great week when there’s football involved. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. This group of players is basically a dream stream team. For reference, the threshold used for Wins and Losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points. Here is the Week 5 Stream Team.

Week 5 Stream Team

Quarterback – Geno Smith (SEA – 12%) @ NO

In one of the biggest plot twists of the season so far, Geno Smith has become one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL. Over the last two weeks, that has turned him into a great option in fantasy football. Through the first two weeks, the Seattle Seahawks were the slowest-paced team in the NFL and had run the least amount of offensive plays. That shifted in a massive way in Week 3. This newfound fast-paced offense combined with Smith’s efficient play has caused a fantasy explosion. Smith is completing 77.3% of his passes, leading the NFL far and away. He is also running a bit as well. Smith’s 17 carries rank 10th among all quarterbacks. Add it all up and he is the QB10 on the season after four weeks. The Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints is not ideal but they should be trailing and throwing plenty and they will be playing in a dome. The #LetGenoCook train should keep chugging making Smith one of the best Week 5 Stream Team options.

Honorable Mentions – Zach Wilson (NYJ – 10%) v MIA, Jameis Winston (NO – 36%) v SEA

Running Back – Raheem Mostert (MIA – 50%) @ NYJ

Raheem Mostert has quietly been taking over the Miami Dolphins‘ backfield. It might not have been noticeable from the production so far, but he’s slowly seeing better and better usage. This past week Mostert saw 15 carries and three targets. What was even more encouraging was the fact that he set new career-highs in snaps and routes run. If Mostert is going to become more involved in the passing game, that will be huge towards making him an every-week starter. For now, it makes him a great Week 5 Stream Team option. This week’s matchup against the New York Jets is a juicy one. The Jets have allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to running backs so far and play at a fast pace. The Dolphins will be without Tua Tagovailoa, but should still be playing from ahead as they are three-point road favorites. That should help Mostert to a nice day in this one.

Honorable Mentions – Mike Boone (DEN – 3%) v IND, Tyler Allgeier (ATL – 17%) @ TB

Wide Receiver – Josh Reynolds (DET – 20%) @ NE

The Detroit Lions had to roll out the B-squad this week but it didn’t seem to matter. They were still able to hang 45 points on the Seahawks. Josh Reynolds played a big part in that. With all three of D’Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and D.J. Chark out this weekend, other players needed to step up. Reynolds was able to see eight targets and caught seven of them for 81 yards and a touchdown. Reynolds has shown flashes in his career and although he doesn’t profile as an alpha wide receiver, he can be serviceable in a pinch. This week it will be worth monitoring if the big-name Lions, especially St. Brown and Chark, are able to return. If they need to sit out another week, that will make Reynolds a great Week 5 Stream Team option against the New England Patriots. The Patriots aren’t a matchup to specifically target but they aren’t one to specifically avoid either. The Lions have been a great source of fantasy production as they can put up a lot of points and they haven’t been able to prevent the other team from doing the same. There isn’t much reason to believe that would change this week.

Honorable Mentions – Michael Gallup (DAL – 41%) @ LAR, Jakobi Meyers (NE – 43%) v DET

Tight End – Mo Alie-Cox (IND – 5%) @ DEN

Trying to find viable tight ends can sometimes feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It helps when that needle is an extra large-sized needle. Mo Alie-Cox is a monster of a man. Standing at 6’6” and weighing in at 260 lbs, he can be a matchup nightmare, especially in the end zone. That’s exactly what Alie-Cox was this past week as he was able to haul in two touchdowns. In addition to those two scores, he finished with six catches for 85 yards. That was good for 26.50 fantasy points. Alie-Cox tends to be a bit touchdown-dependent so it was nice to see him more involved this week. Heading into this one he only had about 8 fantasy points in all three games combined. This week’s matchup against the Denver Broncos might be a good one for him to keep that production going. If the Broncos offense can keep putting up points like they did this past week, the Indianapolis Colts could need to throw more often than usual, much to the benefit of Alie-Cox. That should help make him a nice Week 5 Stream Team option.

Honorable Mentions – Robert Tonyan (GB – 32%) v NYG, Hayden Hurst (CIN – 21%) @ BAL
