Casey Hayward Signs Deal With Atlanta Falcons
Casey Hayward has a somewhat improved year with the Raiders in 2021 after having a down year before that. He started all 17 games and finished with 46 combined tackles (39 solo), one interception, and nine pass deflections. He did allow fewer receptions than the year prior (30 as opposed to 36).
Hayward played football in college at Vanderbilt and was named Second Team All-SEC in 2011. He was drafted late in the second round by the Green Bay Packers in 2012 and immediately made an impact coming in as he grabbed six interceptions and had 20 pass deflections. This got him named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. However, 2013 saw him get bogged down with injuries as he only played in three games. In 2014 he bounced back and grabbed three interceptions, including his first career pick-six.
He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016 and proceeded to have two of the best years of his career immediately. In 2016 he pulled in a career-high seven interceptions including one pick-six with 20 pass deflections. He finished as the league leader in interceptions for that year. 2017 saw him grab fewer interceptions with a total of four, but he finished with a career-high 22 pass deflections. These efforts helped him get Pro Bowl berths and Second-Team All-Pro honors for both 2016 and 2017.
Hayward did not stuff the stat sheet the remainder of his career with the Chargers – which lasted through 2020. He didn’t pull in more than two interceptions in a year from 2018 to 2020. However, he was still an important piece of the Chargers team that went 12-4 in 2018.
Thus far in his career, Casey Hayward has a total of 431 tackles (361) solo, 24 interceptions with two pick-sixes, and 109 pass deflections.
