Haason Reddick, Philadelphia Eagles, Agree to Contract
Haason Reddick bet on himself in 2021, taking a one-year deal with the Panthers. On that prove-it deal, Reddick was a core part of a solid Panthers defense. He tallied 11 sacks, reaching double-digits for the second time in as many seasons. His value to the team extended beyond his ability to sack the quarterback, also ranking highly in pressure rate, stuffs, and stops. He and teammate Brian Burns drew national attention for their performances as a duo this season.
Reddick’s time with the Panthers followed up what was a breakout season in 2020. In his last season with the Arizona Cardinals, Reddick replaced the injured Chandler Jones as Arizona’s top edge rusher. Seizing the opportunity, the crowning achievement of Reddick’s year was a five-sack performance against the New York Giants, earning Arizona’s single-game sack record on his way to Defensive Player of the Week honors. Reddick ranked fourth in the league with 12.5 sacks and second in the league with six forced fumbles.
Reddick demonstrated his ability in 2020, but his first few years with the Cardinals were less successful. Reddick’s usage at inside linebacker in Vance Joseph’s 3-4 defense was a key component in the unit being one of the league’s worst in 2019. Reddick’s first three years in the NFL saw him play in three different positions in three different schemes under three different coaches. He has largely played as an off-the-ball, weakside linebacker, as opposed to the edge rusher role in which he excelled in 2020 and 2021.
In college, Reddick played defensive end and attended the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine as such. Despite this, during the pre-draft process, he emerged as a top prospect at inside linebacker. He was drafted by the Cardinals at 13th overall. He is the highest-drafted Temple player since 1986.
