Williams Sisters Would Be Good Fit as NFL Majority Owners

Tennis stars the Williams sisters would be an interest ownership group for an team looking to further the diversity of ownership in the NFL.
Williams sisters

The entire world knows Serena and Venus Williams are tennis superstars. But many don’t know that they also own multiple businesses. Both Williams sisters are involved in their own separate business ventures.

Serena owns Serena Ventures, S by Serena and has an investment in Esusu. She is also on the Poshmark board of directors and a strategic advisor to The Mom Project. Recently, she became part owner of a new women’s soccer team in Los Angeles. Venus is the CEO of V Starr Interiors, owns the fashion line Eleven, and has partnered with GhostBed. They also have been involved in several media entertainment ventures.  Serena has starred in several films. Both were executive producers of the biopic film, King Richard, which was nominated for six Academy Awards. But there is one venture the Williams sisters would be a good fit for that they have yet to attain. That would be majority owners of an NFL team, not just minority owners.

NFL Majority Ownership Would Be Good Fit for Williams Sisters

It is not a far-fetched idea for the Williams sisters to be majority owners of an NFL franchise. In fact, they already own a small stake in the Miami Dolphins. The Williams sisters became the first African American females to ever own a stake in an NFL team when they purchased the stake in 2009. If the two sisters ever become majority owners of an NFL team, they would be the first African American females to do so. Currently, there are no African American majority owners of any NFL franchise.

However, a group of African American business leaders have been lobbying for a black-owned Oakland, California NFL team since 2020. The group is called African American Sports and Entertainment Group. A common goal among the group has been finding someone with the finances for the NFL franchise fee.

Beal Has First Rights to Purchase Dolphins

But eager fans of the Williams sisters that want them to become majority owners of the Dolphins don’t need to get their hopes up just yet. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross isn’t going anywhere. But that is only if former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores can’t prove Ross offered him money for tanking. In a lawsuit, former Miami Dolphins head coach Flores accused Ross of offering him money to lose games during the 2019 NFL football season. Before Flores’ allegations against Ross, fans were calling for Ross to sell the team. But even if Ross dies, sells, or loses the team, Dolphins vice chairman Bruce Beal already has the first rights to purchase the team. But many fans feel that the team wouldn’t be ran much differently since Ross and Beal are so closely connected.  Beal has been an executive with Ross’ The Related Companies since 1995.

The Williams sisters would definitely be able to relate to football athletes. For over twenty years, they have been athletes themselves. Yet, despite how good the idea sounds, chances of that happening with the Dolphins are unlikely. Beal is basically a lock as the successor of the Dolphins ownership. At this point, fans can only dream for the Williams sisters to become the first African American female majority owners of an NFL team. They definitely would be a good fit for the role if it were to ever happen.
