Miami Dolphins Hire Mike McDaniel

Fans Have a Cautious Mood Over McDaniel: Former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is now Dolphins head coach.

On Sunday afternoon, the Miami Dolphins announced a new head coach. Former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is now the Dolphins head coach. But currently, Dolphins fans have a cautious mood over the hire.

Mike McDaniel Hire Ushers in New Era for Miami Dolphins

McDaniel was a finalist for the position. Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore was the other finalist for the job. Other names linked to the head coaching position were Brian Daboll, Jim Harbaugh, and Doug Pederson.  Harbaugh decided to stay Michigan’s head coach. Daboll and Pederson accepted head coaching jobs elsewhere.

Because of his experience, Dolphins fans were hoping for a Jim Harbaugh hire. However, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said he would not be the one to take him from Michigan. But fans became optimistic when reports Harbaugh was interviewing for an NFL head coaching position.

However, debates were ongoing on social media in the past week over McDaniel’s experience. Although some fans were excited about McDaniel, others were not. Fans argued that 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was the 49ers play-caller, not McDaniel. When McDaniel was announced as Dolphins head coach on Sunday, mixed feelings were the mood among fans on social media.

Fans Have Mixed Feelings

On Twitter, Dolphins fans are tweeting their feelings over the McDaniel hire. Miami Herald’s Dolphins beat reporter, Daniel Oyefusi, tweeted after the hire, “Dolphins fans, how y’all feeling tonight?”  The replies to his tweets mixed with some pessimism, optimism, and mostly caution continue to rise. An hour after his tweet, Oyefusi had over 130 replies. In those replies were references to being in the same situation before with Brian Flores and Adam Gase. Other fans continue to tweet memes about being cautious.

In addition to Oyefusi’s tweet, threads on McDaniel’s hire can be found throughout Dolphins Twitter. Dolphins main Twitter account had almost 1,000 replies to its tweet of McDaniel’s hire two hours after the hire. Overall, there is more optimism than pessimism among fans about McDaniel. However, many fans are in a cautious “wait and see what happens” mood. Only time will tell what kind of success McDaniel will have as Dolphins head coach.
