DJ Chark to Miss Remainder of the 2021 Season
Chark left the Jaguars Week 4 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals early due to an injury. He wouldn’t return to the game, and we later learned that he fractured his ankle. This is unfortunate news for Chark and the team as a whole. The young wideout is one of the most talented players on this young team. The Jaguars had high hopes for Chark this year. In fact, this season was to be an important one for Chark. It’s a contract year for him, and now he will miss the majority of the season.
Chark is a fourth-year wide receiver out of Louisiana State University. He was a 2nd round pick (61st overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. Chark had a very modest rookie season. He dealt with some injuries and only played in 11 games. He had 14 receptions for 174 yards and no scores that year.
Chark’s sophomore campaign was a break out of sorts. He played in 15 games and had 73 receptions for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns. It was a burst on the scene kind of season for Chark and there were hopes that he could ascend to become a true number one type receiver. However, Chark struggled in 2020, in part due to nagging injuries. He played in 13 games and had 53 receptions for 706 yards and five scores. Chark appeared in four games this season and logged seven receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Not only will the Jaguars have a big hole to fill for the remainder of the season, but Chark’s future with the Jaguars is now in question. The team is in rebuild mode and is in definite need of a number one receiving threat. Unfortunately, Chark is in his contract year and may not return to the team due to impending free agency. Here’s to hoping Chark has a speedy recovery and a quick return to the gridiron next season.
