Taylor Heinicke and the Washington Football Team pulled off an impressive last-second win on Thursday Night Football and, according to the latest NFL rumors, the longtime backup is impressing his teammates. In other news, New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore returned to practice, while HBO’s Hard Knocks is going to be covering the Colts during the regular season.
NFL Rumors: Taylor Heinicke, Marshon Lattimore, Hard Knocks
Quarterback Taylor Heinicke earned the first regular season start of his career on Thursday Night Football. In an absolutely wild game, the former undrafted free agent orchestrated two separate 4th quarter comebacks while completing 34 of his 46 attempts for 336 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. However, perhaps the most impressive thing about Heinicke’s night was the way he conducted himself on the field.
Taylor Heinicke could not have placed this ball any better. And what a grab by RIcky Seals-Jones. This game has been awesome.

Speaking to reporters after the game, running back J.D. McKissic said that Heinicke “reminded me of Russell Wilson” with his calm demeanor during the final drive. McKissic added that “he was calm. He wanted to make a play. He wanted to do anything it took. Only thing on his mind was winning.”
McKissic, of course, entered the league with Seattle and spent three seasons sharing a huddle with Wilson. While Heinicke is obviously not the same caliber of quarterback, he has impressed every time he’s had the opportunity to start. With another good couple of weeks, there is a chance that Ryan Fitzpatrick never gets his job back.
Marshon Lattimore Practicing
Newly-paid cornerback Marshon Lattimore underwent thumb surgery following Week 1’s blowout win over the Green Bay Packers. However, despite the surgery, there is a chance that the cornerback doesn’t miss any time. The superstar defensive back is already back at practice and has yet to be ruled out for Sunday’s contest against the Carolina Panthers.
Lattimore originally suffered this injury during Week 1’s win. After missing a series, the cornerback returned to the field and finished the rest of the game. Nobody thought this was going to be a major setback, but most reports suggested the cornerback was going to miss a week or two. Needless to say, the fact that he’s already practicing is a good sign for his availability.
Hopefully, Lattimore can return, as the Saints are currently staring down several key injuries. Linebacker Kwon Alexander, defensive end Marcus Davenport, center Erik McCoy, defensive end Tanoh Kpassgnon, linebacker Pete Warner, defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and linebacker Chase Hansen all missed practice yesterday, with many of those names also missing Wednesday’s practice.

Hard Knocks to Cover Colts During Regular Season
HBO’s Hard Knocks is always one of the most interesting watches of the preseason. Throughout training camp, a camera crew follows one NFL team to give an all-access path to life on the other side of training camp. Now, for the first time ever, that coverage will continue into the regular season with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts, of course, are heading into the season with Carson Wentz under center. After spending the first five years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz arrived in Indianapolis following an atrocious 2020 season. With rumors of team chemistry being an issue in Philadelphia, it should be fascinating to see how Wentz is adjusting to his new environment.
