Overview

Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Etheridge attended Capital High School where he competed as an outside linebacker. Rivals.com ranked him as a three-star prospect, the sixth-best player in West Virginia, and as the best outside linebacker in West Virginia. ESPN.com ranked Etheridge as the #50 outside linebacker. Scout.com rated him as the #45 best outside linebacker in the U.S., the best outside linebacker in West Virginia, and as one of the five best recruits overall in the state. 247Sports.com rated him as the #35 inside linebacker in the U.S., and the sixth-best in the state. He received Two-Time All-State Selection Honors by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

As a junior, he received American Family Insurance All-USA West Virginia Football Team honors. Etheridge also was named Second-Team AAA All-State by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. He led his team to a Class-3A State Title in his sophomore year. As a senior, he received First-Team AAA All-State honors from the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Etheridge committed to the University of Louisville.

As a freshman, Etheridge completed 40 solo and 43 assisted tackles with two passes broken up. He had a career-high in tackles against Boston College with 14.  During his sophomore season, Etheridge had 32 solo and 23 assisted tackles with half a sack and four passes broken up. He had a season-high in tackles against Boston College with 11. As a junior, Etheridge completed 45 solo and 25 assisted tackles with one sack, one interception, and five passes were broken up. He had a season-high in tackles against North Carolina State with 11. In his senior season, Etheridge had 30 solo and 20 assisted tackles with two and a half sacks, one forced fumble, and two broken-up passes. ESPN named him a Freshman All-American as Etheridge led his team in tackles with 83.

Bottom Line on Dorian Etheridge

Etheridge is a player who has consistently risen above expectations through hard work and consistent effort. He is not the most talented nor athletic, but he makes up for it in intelligence and is very coachable. Etheridge is very raw with a limited ceiling, but a patient team may use a late-round selection on him for development as a backup linebacker.
