Tommy Treble 2021 NFL Draft Profile
If there was one football player who came into his own at Notre Dame, then that person would be Tommy Tremble. His skill set at the tight end position is very suitable for the NFL. So, the expectations are high that Tremble will make a smooth transition into the pros.
One thing for certain, Tremble is a dominant blocker who has perfect technique coming off the line of scrimmage. He offers a wide base that allows him to move a defender in the opposite direction away from the ball carrier. Tremble’s athleticism and ability to explode through his blocking assignment will allow an NFL team to line him up almost anywhere in an offensive set.
It is a small sampling, but he has shown the potential to make receptions in heavy traffic across the middle of the field. Tremble is best at utilizing his speed to gain separation from a pass defender in a crossing pattern. He is adept at catching the football with his hands away from his body. It allows him to firmly secure possession before oncoming contact.
In high school, Tremble was more known for his pass-rushing skills from the outside. After his sophomore season, he transitioned to the offense as the coaching staff felt his athleticism made him an ideal receiver candidate for the upcoming season. And to the surprised of no one, the transition to the offensive side of the ball was effortless for Tremble.
Unfortunately, he broke his ankle in the second game of his senior season. The setback forced Tremble to miss the remainder of the campaign. He chose Notre Dame over Georgia in a highly-contested recruiting battle.
At Notre Dame, Tremble’s collegiate career began as an understudy to starting tight end Cole Kmet. He did appear in nine games as a sophomore. Tremble caught 16 passes for 183 yards and four touchdowns. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly took notice of his ability to pass block as a fullback and run block in a two-tight end set. Tremble’s insertion into the lineup helped the Fighting Irish to have one of the best offenses in college football.
Once Kmet left school, Tremble was named the starting tight end for his junior season. Notre Dame’s offense has another exceptional year as Tremble contributed with 19 catches for 218 yards in 10 games. Following the college playoff loss to Alabama, Tremble announced his decision to declare himself eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Bottom Line on Tommy Tremble
The odds are low that Tremble will be selected in the first two rounds of the draft. Yes, he has enough talent to become a pro tight end. But he has limited production during his time with Notre Dame to support this notion. Because of his athleticism, some NFL teams will determine that Tremble has not scratched the surface of his potential. They will draft him and show the patience needed for Tremble to become a full-time starter.
Immediately, he can become an ideal lead blocker on running plays to the outside. But Tremble will need time to learn how to run more disciplined pass routes on deep throws. Or recognized coverage mismatches and make himself more available as a receiving option for his quarterback.
A franchise will recognize the untapped talent and let Tremble develop his overall game. This reason alone makes him an ideal Day 3 option in the draft.
