Tarell Basham Signs With Dallas Cowboys

As a 26-year-old edge defender, Basham played in all 16 regular season games while starting in nine of them. Basham put together a solid defensive season as he recorded 19 solo tackles, 12 assists, four sacks, and three forced fumbles which earned him a PFF grade of 64.6. Basham’s 2019 season resulted in his career-high PFF grade of 73.1 following a season in which he played in all 16 regular season games including two starts. Basham accounted for 22 solo tackles, six assists, two sacks, and one interception during his 2019 campaign.

Before joining the Jets, Basham played one game for the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 before being placed on waivers where the Jets later claimed him. As a Jet in 2018, Basham went on to play in ten games tallying six solo tackles and two assists on his way to earning a 69.1 PFF grade. As a rookie third round pick out of Ohio University in 2017 by the Colts, the 6-foot-4, 266-pound defender had a lackluster season. Basham finished the season having played in 15 games, accounting for three solo tackles, one assist, two sacks, and one forced fumble while earning a PFF grade of 58.6.

While not a top-tier draft prospect, Basham was seen as a solid middle round player who could bring value to a team with his natural size and athleticism. Furthermore, with his long arms and overall length, Basham excelled as a pass rusher and four-year starter in college. While putting up more than respectable numbers during his first three years at Ohio, Basham had a breakout senior season. Basham racked up nine sacks, 49 tackles, and 14.5 tackles for a loss. The performance earned Basham a spot on the All-Mac team along with conference player of the year honors. He also received an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
