Fitzpatrick played in nine games for the Dolphins in 2020, starting seven. He had a productive season registering a 68.5% completion percentage. He passed for over 2,000 yards and 13 touchdowns. Fitzpatrick kept his up his reputation with eight interceptions. The highlight of Fitzpatrick’s season was the Dolphins victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. The journeyman quarterback replaced starter Tua Tagovailoa to complete the come-from-behind victory. Fitzpatrick led the Dolphins down the field late in the 4th quarter, completing a long pass while suffering a brutal facemask, to set up a game-winning field goal in the closing seconds.
Prior to playing for Miami, Fitzpatrick was the epitome of a journeyman. Fitzpatrick started his career with the then St. Louis Rams, now the Los Angeles Rams. He moved from the Rams to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, New York Jets, and finally the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining the Dolphins.
Fitzpatrick’s prior season in Miami, he started 13 out of 15 games played passing for 3,529 yards, 20 touchdowns, with 13 interceptions. In 2019 Fitzpatrick had a QBR of 68.3 and was sacked a stifling 40 times.
While in Tampa Bay, Fitzpatrick split time with Jameis Winston starting 10/14 games played passing for 3,469 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. His two year stint for the Jets yielded 6,615 yards and 43 touchdowns. Going further back, Fitzpatrick passed for 2,483 yards and 17 touchdowns in Houston; and 2,454 yards and 14 touchdowns in Tennessee.
The veteran quarterback struggled mightily for the Bengals passing for 1,905 yards and eight touchdowns while starting 12/14 games played in two years. His most productive stop was Buffalo. Fitzpatrick yielded 53 starts, 11,654 yards, 80 touchdowns, and 64 interceptions in four seasons playing for the Bills. Before that, was his brutal stint with the Bengals after a two year stay with his original team: the St. Louis Rams.
