Another week of fantasy football action is in the books, as owners everywhere scour the waiver wire to find the best available quarterback streams. Looking around the league shows that players like Derek Carr and Teddy Bridgewater offer the best chance of positive performance in the coming weeks.
Note that, in order to be eligible for this list, the player needed to be available in at least 50% of fantasy leagues. Obviously, there is some variation from league to league, so make sure to peruse all available players before making your claims. There could be a better option available in your specific league.
Week 9 Waiver Wire Claims: Running Back – Wide Receiver – Quarterback – Defense
Derek Carr, Teddy Bridgewater Highlight Fantasy Football Week 9 Quarterback Waiver Wire Streams
Derek Carr
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had a rough day in Week 8, but you can blame that on the elements. The Raiders and Browns played in severe winds, which limited the passing output on both sides. Carr has been largely fantastic throughout the season, and weather shouldn’t be an issue when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers. Los Angeles has a defense that can certainly be exploited, but, more importantly, they have a great young quarterback in Justin Herbert. Herbert is setting rookie passing records left and right and should be able to go blow-for-blow with Carr and the Raiders. This should be a high-scoring game, and Carr can give you a quality start if you need a quarterback stream.
Teddy Bridgewater
Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater might not have week-winning upside, but he’s a safe stream that should give you a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2 performance. Armed with a great wide receiver trio of D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson, and Curtis Samuel, Bridgewater has the offensive firepower to keep up in any game script. Additionally, he should have Christian McCaffrey back on the field, which will only help him accumulate yardage on dumpoffs and quick screens.
Bridgewater and the Panthers face off against a white-hot Kansas City Chiefs offense. The Panthers will not be able to go blow-for-blow with this fantastic offense, but they are good enough to accumulate statistics at the tail end of a losing effort. Garbage time points count just as much as regular yards, and Bridgewater and company should accumulate plenty of garbage time yards.
Drew Lock
Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock has been something of a mixed bag this season. However, the second-year quarterback is coming off arguably the best game of his young career. Piloting a great comeback effort, the former second-round pick finished Week 8 with 248 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
Lock and the Broncos face off against an absolutely atrocious Atlanta Falcons defense. The Falcons are a perfect matchup for fantasy quarterbacks, as they have a bad defense and a great offense. Lock shouldn’t have any trouble going up and down the field, while Matt Ryan and company should be able to go blow-for-blow with Denver’s offense.
Tua Tagovailoa
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa did not look particularly good in his first NFL start. Despite earning the win, the rookie completed just 12 of his 22 passing attempts for 93 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. The performance clearly left a lot to be desired, and you shouldn’t stream him unless you are truly desperate.
However, he should be available in a lot of leagues and could bounce back in Week 9. Tagovailoa had one of the best college careers in recent memory and was considered one of the best quarterback prospects of the past few years. The draft process is certainly an inexact science, but Tagovailoa should be a lot better moving forward. If you’re desperate, take a shot on the talent of Tua Tagovailoa.
