The Tennessee Titans and star running back Derrick Henry have reached a four-year extension. The NFL rushing leader for this past season will now be under contract until 2024. Both sides had until 4 PM Tuesday to reach a deal or Henry would play on the franchise tag at $10.278 million.
This deal was first reported by FOX analyst Jay Glazer, with the new contract worth $50 million with $25.5 million guaranteed.

Derrick Henry Contract Extension
This was essentially a no-brainer. Derrick Henry’s style of play was vital in Tennessee’s run from the 6th seed to the AFC Championship this past season. Before his arrival in the Music City, Henry was a star running back at Yulee High School where he set the national high school football record for career rushing yards. Following graduation, he committed to the University of Alabama. In three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Henry rushed for over 3,500 yards and 42 touchdowns. Henry completed his college career as a national champion after Alabama defeated Clemson and quarterback Deshaun Watson in 2015. Henry was then drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
Throughout his NFL career, Henry has rushed for 3,833 yards and 38 touchdowns. In the second quarter of a 2018 Week 14 game, Henry had a 99-yard touchdown run, tying him with Tony Dorsett for the longest NFL touchdown run. The 2019 season was his best season as a running back.
In the AFC Wild Card game against the New England Patriots, Henry rushed for 182 yards in the 20–13 victory. This knocked the defending champions out of the postseason. Against the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round, Henry rushed for 195 yards and threw a touchdown pass in the 28–12 win.
Henry rushed for 69 yards in a 35-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. The Titans now have their offensive leader back in the saddle.
