New York Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas was arrested in Chico, CA Monday for a hit-and-run, according to TMZ. The 25-year-old allegedly t-boned a car and fled the scene. Cops believe there was alcohol involved.
Witnesses say they saw Rosas going around 100 miles per hour and driving erratically at around 8:25 and failed to stop at a red light. Cops said he ran right into the side of a pickup truck at the intersection but kept on driving.
TMZ was told that Rosas was booked on a hit-and-run charge as well as driving with a suspended license.
Aldrick Rosas Booked on Hit-and-Run
Rosas disappointed last year with the Giants after he made the Pro Bowl in 2018. He went 12/17 on field goals and 35/39 on extra points, quite the drop off after only missing one field goal and one extra point in his Pro Bowl campaign. However, Rosas did enough last season to impress the new staff and earn another contract.
Rosas signed his restricted free agent contract in early April and is set to earn $3.2 million for the 2020 season. No word yet from Rosas or the Giants on the incident, but it will be interesting to see how the organization handles this situation.
This isn’t Rosas’ first incident with the law, however. In February of 2016, Rosas was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a Blood Alcohol Content of more than .08%, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com. The DUI charge was dismissed but Rosas still pled guilty for driving with a BAC over .08%. The Giants were made aware of the situation before signing Rosas as an undrafted free agent in 2017.
The previous charges and the rich free-agent kicker market will not help Rosas’ case to stay with the Giants. Long-time Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski is available and his familiarity with new head coach Joe Judge could be a no-brainer decision.
The Giants have yet to comment on the situation, but Rosas’ days in blue could be numbered.
