The New England Patriots have done it again and yes, they have traded back in the draft in an attempt to rebuild their franchise. New England has agreed in principle to trade the 23rd pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for the 37th and 71st overall pick. The Chargers then proceeded to select linebacker Kenneth Murray out of Oklahoma to help provide a boost to their defense.
The #Chargers trade up and take #OU LB Kenneth Murray at No. 23. Didn’t hear a bad word about him all process. Leader and high-character.

Los Angeles Chargers Trade up to Get Kenneth Murray
On the flip side, New England has the opportunity to use these picks to rebuild following the departure of quarterback Tom Brady. Also, head coach Bill Belichick has always been about building a team over acquiring talent. The Boston faithful will have to wait until Day 2 before they make a selection.
Looking at it from the Chargers perspective, Murray looks to be a perennial Pro-Bowl player and an anchor alonside Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram in Los Angeles. Aside from Patrick Queen, Murray is seen as one of the best linebackers in the draft.
In Los Angeles, Murray will join a talented Chargers defense that by many is seen as one of the best in the league. Plus with new quarterback Justin Herbert now on a rookie contract, the window for a championship is open and the Chargers took a chance at diving through it. The offense has a leader while the defense adds another piece of a puzzle that head coach Anthony Lynn will be glad to have at his disposal.
In a division where the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs reside, the Bolts will benefit from any kind of help in addition to competing with the Broncos and Raiders, both of whom invested in Alabama receivers Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs. The Chargers want to win, and it looks as if they are going all in.
