After two All-Pro seasons, Gurley experienced something of a regression in 2019. The Rams offensive line took a step back in 2019, and that lack of elite blocking clearly affect Gurley. Appearing and starting in 15 games, Gurley ended his season with 857 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 223 carries to go along with 31 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns. This was the first time Gurley failed to reach 1,000 rushing yards since the 2016 season.

Gurley initially entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Selected by the (then) St. Louis Rams, Gurley immediately hit the ground running and established himself as one of the best running backs in the league. Appearing in 13 games and making 12 starts, the Georgia product recorded 1,106 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 21 receptions for 188 receiving yards. The following season, Gurley recorded 278 carries for just 885 rushing yards and six touchdowns to go along with 43 receptions for 327.

Gurley returned to the NFL elite the following season. Led by first-year head coach Sean McVay, Gurley ran for 1,305 yards and a league-high 13 touchdowns on a career-high 279 carries. He added another 64 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns en route to earning First-Team All-Pro honors. The former first-round pick followed that incredible season with a similarly impressive 2018. Appearing in 14 games, Gurley recorded 1,251 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns to go along with 59 receptions for 580 yards and four touchdowns. He earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the second consecutive season, but missed the final two games of the regular season. Even though he came back for the postseason run, Gurley spent most of the time splitting carries with an equally-effective C.J. Anderson.
