Four-year NFL interior offensive lineman Ted Karras signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Miami Dolphins. As of this posting, the exact financial guarantees are not available to the public. Karras, a two-time Super Bowl champion, spent the first four years of his career with the New England Patriots. Jeff Howe of The Athletic first broke the news of the agreement.

Ted Karras, Miami Dolphins Agree to Contract
Ted Karras was supposed to be a backup in 2019, but unexpectedly earned a starting job for the entirety of the 2019 season. New England’s starting center, David Andrews, missed the entirety of the season after suffering blood clots in his lungs just weeks before the season. Karras, a guard by trade, stepped up into the backup role and started 15 games and New England’s lone playoff appearance. According to Pro Football Focus, Karras was the 20th-best center in the league last year.
Karras initially entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Selected by the New England Patriots, the rookie managed to earn a spot on the 53-man roster and even started for an injured Shaq Mason in Week 1. However, Mason returned in Week 2 and Karras spent the rest of the season as the top interior line option.
Ted Karras returned to New England in 2017 and 2018, maintaining his job as the top depth option along the interior. The Illinois product made four starts over this timeframe while appearing in 29 games. He mostly played well when on the field, with the lone exception coming on a botched snap in a 2017 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. During that contest, Karras launched a snap over Tom Brady’s head, and the Dolphins returned the snap for a touchdown. The snap ended up not being too costly, as the Patriots won that contest by a final score of 35 to 17.
