After losing seemingly every free agent to the open market, the Patriots seemingly brought in Allen to serve as Danny Shelton‘s replacement. Last year, Allen served as a rotational member of the Buccaneers defensive line. Appearing in 13 games and making zero starts, the interior defensive lineman recorded 10 total tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and one quarterback hit.
Allen initially entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, Allen earned a spot on the Week 1 roster and appeared in all 16 games. Serving as a complementary member of the defensive line rotation, Allen ended his rookie year with 10 tackles and two quarterback hits. He earned a larger role in 2015, playing in all 16 games and earning two starts. Given a larger role, Allen recorded 28 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and no quarterback hits.
Doug Pederson took over for Chip Kelly in 2016, but Allen still stuck around as a rotational defensive tackle. Appearing in 16 games and making three starts, Allen recorded 29 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, five quarterback hits, one half-sack, and one fumble recovery. By just about every measure, this was the best season of Allen’s young career. The defensive tackle spent one more season in Philadelphia, playing in 15 games and making three starts for the Super Bowl champion Eagles. During his time on the field, the former seventh-round pick recorded one sack, four tackles-for-loss, four quarterback hits, and 20 tackles.
