Marcus Mariota, Las Vegas Raiders, Agree to Deal
Marcus Mariota is coming off of what is easily his worst season to date. After starting the season under center, the former second-overall pick lost his starting job after six games. With Ryan Tannehill under center, the Titans earned a 9-7 record and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game. During his limited time under center, Mariota completed 59.4% of his passes for 1,203 yards, seven touchdowns, two interceptions, and a 31.4 QBR.
Mariota originally entered the NFL as the second-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tennessee Titans, Mariota began his career against Jameis Winston, the first overall pick in the aforementioned draft. Mariota convincingly won the matchup, as he posted a perfect 158.3 passer rating during his NFL debut. While the Titans didn’t do too well in 2015, Mariota showed plenty of promise as a rookie, completing 62.2% of his passes for 2,818 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 12 games.
Marcus Mariota entered 2016 as the unquestioned starter and continued to improve. Starting in 15 of a possible 16 games, the Oregon product completed 61.2% of his passes for 3,426 yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He guided the Titans to an 8-7 record during his starts.
Unfortunately, injuries started to take their toll in the 2017 season. While Mariota led the Titans to a playoff victory, his actual on-field play dropped dramatically. Once again playing in 15 games, Mariota completed 62.0% of his passes for 3,232 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. 2018 was more of the same, as Mariota played in 14 games while completing 68.9% of his passes for 2,528 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The Titans traded for Ryan Tannehill in the ensuing offseason, and the rest is history.
