Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston made history on Sunday after throwing his 30th interception of the season. He did this in the most Jameis Winston way possible, tossing a pick-six in overtime to end the season. The highly-volatile quarterback had one of the most interesting seasons in recent memory and capped it off by becoming the first player in history to throw for over 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season. Winston entered Week 17 with 31 touchdown passes and 28 interceptions.

Jameis Winston Throws For 30 Touchdowns, 30 Interceptions
Throwing for 30 touchdowns in a season is becoming more common by the year, but throwing for 30 interceptions remains a difficult feat. Ironically enough, the last quarterback to accomplish the feat was Tampa’s own Vinny Testaverde during the 1988 season. During that campaign, the former first overall pick threw 35 interceptions to just 13 touchdowns. Aside from Winston and Testaverde, only Richard Todd, Ken Stabler, and Fran Tarkenton have thrown 30 or more interceptions in a season since 1970.
Winston is one of the most volatile quarterbacks in the league and his wide range of outcomes have been on display throughout the 2019 season. Entering Week 17, the former first overall pick has had nine games with multiple interceptions but also has nine games with two or more touchdown passes. He entered the week leading the league in passing attempts, yards, and interceptions and has the ability to look like the best and worst quarterback in the league any time he throws the ball. According to Pro Football Focus, Winston typically ends his season in the top five of positively- and negatively-graded throws, and that shows in his touchdown and interception total.
Jameis Winston is set to be a free agent in 2020 and reportedly is looking for a deal worth at least $30 million per year. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers can use the franchise tag, if they so choose.
