Week 14 of the NFL season is right around the corner, and fantasy football owners everywhere are trying to optimize their lineups. Deciding on who to start and sit isn’t easy, especially when a player like Ryan Tannehill refuses to cool down from his hot streak. Let’s take a dive into all of the best start em’, sit em’ matchups of the week to put together the best possible lineup.
Week 14 Running Back Start Sits
Week 14 Wide Receiver Start Sits
Ryan Tannehill, Jared Goff Highlight Fantasy Football Week 14 Quarterback Start Sits
Start: Ryan Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill probably won’t finish as the top quarterback in Week 14, but the former Miami Dolphin has been electric ever since taking over under center. Since Week 7, Tannehill is the QB6 in points per game. Tannehill had these random hot streaks with Miami, so he could regress to the mean at any point. However, Tennessee offers the best supporting cast and coaching of his career, so there is a chance this hot streak could be sustained throughout the season.
Tannehill faces off against an Oakland Raiders defense which cannot stop anything through the air. The Raiders enter Week 14 ranked 28th in Football Outsiders’ pass-defense DVOA, which means Tannehill should have no problem finding open receivers. Derrick Henry might steal some of his touchdowns, but Tannehill should still finish the week as a QB1.
Sit: Jared Goff
Jared Goff had a great game in Week 13, but he’ll probably return to his underwhelming form in Week 14. Goff simply hasn’t looked like his old self this season, and went all of November without throwing a touchdown pass. He still has the ability to beat up on bad defenses, but he’ll struggle against a solid Seattle Seahawks defense. The 2019 Seahawks aren’t anything like the Legion of Boom, but they’re still good enough to limit Goff to an underwhelming game.
Start: Tom Brady
The New England Patriots passing offense hasn’t looked right all season, but Tom Brady isn’t quite dead yet. Brady isn’t as good as he used to be under pressure, but he still has all the physical tools needed to be a top quarterback in the NFL. The biggest problem with this offense has been finding reliable receivers outside of Julian Edelman. The Patriots should start using James White following their Week 13 success, and Mohamed Sanu should be better now that he’s one more week removed from his ankle injury. The Patriots face off against the Chiefs, which means this should be a high-scoring affair. Look for Brady to pick up yards and finish as a low-end QB1 while trying to keep up with Patrick Mahomes.
Sit: Jacoby Brissett
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cannot stop anything through the air, but you still shouldn’t trust Jacoby Brissett. After an encouraging start to the season, the former third-round pick is starting to slow down. Brissett has thrown just two touchdowns in his past five games and only averages 171 yards per game. When factoring in T.Y. Hilton’s presumed absence, it’s hard to imagine Brissett finishing the week as anything more than a low-end QB2.
Start: Carson Wentz
2019 has not been nice to Carson Wentz, but he should be a smart streaming candidate in Week 14. The former second overall pick should have both Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor back on the field, which should wonders for his production. Say what you will about that duo, but they’re both considerably better than their respective backups. Wentz’ numbers are considerably better when both players are in the game, and Wentz has the fortune of facing off against a New York Giants defense which cannot stop anything. Barring something unforeseen, Wentz should finish the week as a low-end QB1.
Sit: Philip Rivers
Philip Rivers just doesn’t have it anymore. Rivers had a nice game in Week 13, but he’s largely been an underwhelming option under center for the Los Angeles Chargers. The team publicly contemplated benching him for Tyrod Taylor, and Rivers could finish this game on the sideline if he gets off to a rough start. The Jacksonville Jaguars defense isn’t anything to write home about, but there’s no way you can trust Rivers anymore.
