The New England Patriots are the best team in the NFL, and they’re going up against one of the worst. The New York Jets enter Week 3 with an 0-2 record and are on their third quarterback of the season. Sam Darnold is out indefinitely with mono while Trevor Siemian suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2. This lopsided match makes New England a safe bet to cover the ridiculous 17.5-point spread.
New England Patriots Will Cover Spread
The 2019 New England Patriots might be the best incarnation of this team we’ve ever seen. Through the first two weeks, the Patriots have outscored opponents 76-3, including a 33-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Anyone can crush the Miami Dolphins, but the Steelers were supposed to be a decent team with Ben Roethlisberger. Tom Brady is as good as ever, while the trio of Antonio Brown, Julian Edelman, and Josh Gordon gives New England their best receiving core in recent memory. On the other side of the ball, New England boasts playmakers on every level. Stephon Gilmore might be the NFL’s best cornerback, Jamie Collins looks like his old self, and Dont’a Hightower looks faster in 2019 than he did in 2018.
The Jets, meanwhile, are still a wreck. The defense is bad, the offense lacks impact skill players outside of Le’Veon Bell, and Sam Darnold is down for the count. In his place, the Jets are sending out former 199th overall pick Luke Falk. While Falk was selected with the same pick as Tom Brady, there isn’t much to suggest the second-year passer can outplay his draft stock. Falk is on the third team of his short career and didn’t do much to impress in Week 2. He’s hardly practiced with the team and Bill Belichick is going to craft up another masterful gameplan. The Patriots should win this one in a blowout.
