Fantasy Football Week 3 Quarterback Waiver Wire Claims: Josh Allen, Jimmy Garoppolo, More

Fantasy Football Week 3 Quarterback Waiver Wire Claims: Josh Allen and Jimmy Garoppolo are two quarterbacks who can help your fantasy team.
Quarterback Waiver Wire

The first two weeks of NFL action are in the books and the fantasy football landscape is starting to take shape. After months of projection, the first one or two weeks of the season are the most crucial times to nail your waiver wire selections. Smart fantasy football owners know how to stream the quarterback position, and Josh Allen, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Jameis Winston are three of the best quarterback waiver wire claims of the week.

Note that, in order to make this list, the player had to be available in over 50% of fantasy leagues. If you’re in smaller leagues, better players may be available. Make sure to check for diamonds in the rough before going after these guys.

Josh Allen, Jimmy Garoppolo Highlight Fantasy Football Week 3 Quarterback Waiver Wire Claims

Josh Allen

Regardless of what you think of Josh Allen the NFL quarterback, Josh Allen the fantasy football quarterback is typically a solid play. Allen’s slowly developing as a passer and isn’t afraid to take off and pick up yards on the ground. In Week 2 against the New York Giants, Allen recorded 253 passing yards and one touchdown to go along with 21 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He’s a worthy streaming candidate in the right matchup, and he has the right matchup in Week 3.

The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off an atrocious week where they gave up 41 points to Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers. The Bengals had a bad defense in 2018, so this probably wasn’t a one-week fluke. Allen isn’t going to put up a Patrick Mahomes-level performance, but he’s a safe start with low QB1 upside.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo looked like his 2017 self in Week 2. After some ugly play in Week 1 and the preseason, the former second-round pick finally looked comfortable running San Francisco’s offense. When healthy, Garoppolo has the talent required to effectively run Kyle Shanahan’s quarterback-friendly scheme. Garoppolo looks healthy and has a favorable matchup in Week 3.

Garoppolo faces off against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense which has struggled to stop anything through the air. Through two games, the Steelers have allowed 61 points to Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. These are two of the best quarterbacks in the league, so that point total is somewhat inflated. That said, this defense still has a lot of flaws and Garoppolo should be able to exploit this unit.

Jameis Winston

Nobody wants to play Jameis Winston. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is a turnover machine and objectively not that good at the game of football. However, he can rack up yards and touchdowns with the best of them in the right matchup. Mike Evans is still great and Chris Godwin looks like the next big thing at wide receiver. Winston has the weapons to succeed, and the New York Giants defense doesn’t have the weapons to capitalize on his mistakes.

The Giants have one of the least talented rosters in the league, and it’s shown through two weeks. So far, New York has allowed over 30 points per game to Dak Prescott and Josh Allen. Winston is good enough to take advantage of this subpar unit and have a good night.
