New England Patriots Release Dontrelle Inman, Activate Josh Gordon
Inman appeared in both of New England’s preseason games but struggled to separate himself from the pack. During his time on the field, the five-year NFL veteran recorded three receptions for 40 yards while mostly playing with the second- and third-string offenses. This early release should allow him an opportunity to catch on with another team before the start of the season.
Inman initially joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Signed by the San Diego Chargers, Inman recorded 12 receptions for 158 yards as a rookie. He spent parts of four seasons with the Chargers organization, recording a grand total of 107 receptions for 1,463 yards and seven touchdowns. Additionally, Inman spent a portion of 2017 with the Chicago Bears and a portion of 2018 with the Indianapolis Colts.
In a corresponding move, the Patriots officially added Josh Gordon back onto the 90-man roster. Gordon was facing an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy but was reinstated earlier in the week. He played 11 games for New England last year, recording 40 receptions for 720 yards and three touchdowns.
Gordon initially joined the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2012 Supplemental Draft. Selected by the Cleveland Browns, Gordon appeared in all 16 games as a rookie, recording 50 receptions for 805 yards and five touchdowns. He set the league on fire in 2013 when he recorded 87 receptions for a league-leading 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in just 14 games. Throughout the course of his career, Gordon has recorded 220 receptions for 3,826 yards and 19 touchdowns.
