New England Patriots, Maurice Harris Agree to Contract

Harris is the second wide receiver the Patriots have signed today. Earlier in the day, the Patriots came to terms with former Detroit Lions slot receiver Bruce Ellington. These two signings come on the heels of the Patriots missing on wide receivers Adam Humphries, Golden Tate, and Cole Beasley.

Harris made 12 appearances in the 2018 season, starting seven games. During his time on the field, the former undrafted free agent recorded 28 receptions for 304 yards without finding the endzone. Harris’ best game came in a Week Eight loss to the Atlanta Falcons when he recorded 10 receptions on 12 targets for 124 yards.

Harris first entered the NFL after going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. Signing with the Washington Redskins, Harris didn’t make the initial round of roster cuts. However, the Redskins like Harris enough to put him on the practice squad. After fellow wide receiver Josh Doctson suffered a season-ending injury, Harris earned a promotion to the Redskins’ active roster. Appearing in 10 games as a rookie, Harris recorded eight receptions for 66 yards.

Harris spent the 2017 season bouncing between Washington’s active roster and the practice squad. After missing the opening day roster for the second straight year, Harris earned a promotion on November 11, 2017. During his six games on the field, Harris recorded four receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown.

In total, Harris has played in 28 games throughout his NFL career. During his time on the field, the California product has recorded 40 receptions for 432 yards and one touchdown. Interestingly, Harris is cousins with Los Angeles Chargers’ wide receiver Keenan Allen.
