Jason Myers to Sign With Seattle Seahawks

Kicker Jason Myers is coming off a career year which saw him go 33-for-36 on field goals, no extra point misses, and a Pro Bowl berth.

ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates is reporting that placekicker Jason Myers will sign with the Seattle Seahawks. Myers spent the 2018 season with the New York Jets.

Though Myers’ NFL career started in 2015, he actually had a short stint in the Arena Football League. During the 2014 season, he spent time with the Arizona Rattlers and the San Jose SaberCats. However, Myers was not on the active squad for either team.

Myers signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March of 2015, which later led to longtime Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Myers’ first year with the Jags was fairly successful from a field goal standpoint. He converted 26 of 30 attempts for a field goal percentage of 86.7. But extra points were an issue. He made 32 of 39 extra point attempts that season.

The 2016 season was an odd year for Myers. Statistically speaking, he had a worse year than in 2015 as he made 27 of 34 field goal attempts good for 79.4 percent. But, five of his seven misses were from attempts of over 50 yards. In fact, he made seven of 12 attempts of over 50 yards. He also cleaned up his extra point woes, this time hitting on 29 of 32 attempts. Myers’ 2017 season was cut short due to being cut by the Jags in October. He was 11 of 15 on field goals at that point in the season.

Myers was signed by the Jets in late August of 2018 after he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks. Myers had a career year. He made 33 of 36 field goals (91.7 percent) and all 30 extra point attempts. He drew a pro bowl selection for his efforts in 2018.

Myers went to Mater Dei Catholic school for high school. He played football, baseball, and soccer there. He would go on to play college football at Marist, where he was the team’s primary kicker from 2009 to 2012.
