Veteran wide receiver Danny Amendola is expected to sign a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Detroit Lions. This contract could be worth up to $5.75 million, according to Ian Rapoport. Amendola spent the 2018 season with the Miami Dolphins but was released on March 8th after one season. The two-time Super Bowl champion has also played for the St. Louis Rams (now the Los Angeles Rams) and the New England Patriots.

During his year with Miami, the former undrafted free agent recorded 59 receptions for 575 yards and one touchdown. The first-year Dolphin appeared in 15 games, with his best game coming in Week seven against the Detroit Lions. Amendola recorded six receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown during the 32-21 loss.

Amendola spent five seasons with the New England Patriots prior to joining the Miami Dolphins. During his half-decade in New England, Amendola recorded 230 receptions for 2,383 yards and 12 touchdowns. His best season came in 2015 when he recorded 65 receptions for 648 yards and three touchdowns.

Of course, Amendola is best known for his postseason heroics. A key piece of two separate Super Bowl champions, Amendola recorded 57 receptions for 709 yards and six touchdowns in 13 playoff games. Most notably, Amendola recorded eight receptions for 78 yards, one touchdown, and the game-tying two-point conversion in New England’s dramatic comeback during Super Bowl LI. Additionally, Amendola recorded 26 receptions for 348 yards and two touchdowns during New England’s 2017 postseason run.

Amendola actually entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. The Texas Tech product never made the active roster, but Dallas liked him enough to keep him on the practice squad. After starting the 2009 season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad, Amendola joined the St. Louis Rams active roster in Week Three. Over the next four years, Amendola recorded 196 receptions for 1,726 yards and seven touchdowns in 42 games.
