Alex Collins Released by Baltimore Ravens Following Arrest
Right now, there is a lot still unknown with respect to the Collins situation. As of this posting, as we know is that a car hit a tree close to the Ravens practice facility just before 7:00 AM on Friday morning. Collins was arrested at the scene of the crime but has yet to be formally charged. Additionally, it is not yet known whether Collins was driving the car or was just the passenger.
Collins initially entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2016 NFL Draft. Competing for snaps with Thomas Rawls, C.J. Prosise, and Christine Michael, Collins rarely saw the field as a rookie. The Arkansas product finished his rookie season with just 125 rushing yards and a touchdown on 31 carries.
Collins entered 2017’s training camp competing for a spot on the roster with Rawls, Prosise, and former Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy. Collins ultimately couldn’t make the cut and missed Seattle’s final roster. However, the Baltimore Ravens put in a claim for Collins, and the fifth-round pick had a breakout 2017.
Appearing in 15 games (starting 12), Collins ran for 973 yards and six touchdowns on 212 carries, good for a 4.6 yards-per-carry clip. Additionally, Collins added a threat in the passing game, finishing his season with 105 receiving yards and a touchdown on 15 receptions.
Collins couldn’t repeat these heroics in 2018. While he found the endzone seven times, Collins recorded just 411 yards on 114 carries before losing the starting job to Gus Edwards. Collins went down for the season when he suffered a toe injury after 10 games.
