Where were you when history was made? New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, five-time Super Bowl Champion, four-time Super Bowl MVP, and three-time league MVP, has officially hit yet another career milestone. Late in the first quarter against the Minnesota Vikings, Brady scrambled for five yards to pick up a new set of downs. With that run, Brady reached 1,000 rushing yards over his 19-year NFL career.
Tom Brady Hits 1,000 Career Rushing Yards
This mark has been a long time coming for the 41-year old quarterback. Brady entered the 2018 season with 968 rushing yards in his career. Well aware of how close he was to reaching the 1,000-yard mark, Brady made plenty of comments over the off-season about wanting make it to that fabled milestone. It looked as though Brady might reach the record on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills when he scrambled for a first down on third and seven. However, Brady only managed to pick up eight yards, leaving him at 997 yards entering his matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
Brady’s two best seasons as a rusher came way back in 2002 and 2011. In 2002, Brady recorded a career-high 110 rushing yards and a score. In 2011, however, Brady recorded 109 rushing yards but added three additional scores on the ground. Interestingly enough, Brady recorded seven rushing touchdowns during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Not bad for a guy with one of the worst 40-yard dashes in combine history.
Astonishingly, Tom Brady is one of the most storied rushers in league history among players in their 40’s. According to Pro Football Reference, Brady’s 62 rushing yards is third-most among players in their 40’s. While Doug Flutie’s 212 yards is probably out of reach, Brady still has a shot to match Vinny Testaverde’s 73 rushing yards before he hangs up his cleats for good.
