Fantasy Football: Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers Highlight Fantasy Football Week 13 Defenses
Seattle Seahawks
They’re no Legion of Boom, but the Seattle Seahawks defense has performed well in the 2018 season. Seattle’s defense currently ranks 13th in standard scoring and is owned in just 18.7% of leagues. They’ve shown the ability to rack up sacks and force turnovers against mediocre offenses. While you shouldn’t start the unit indefinitely, they can be a good matchup start on a week-by-week basis.
Week 13 is the perfect week for the Seahawks defense. Seattle’s set to host Nick Mullens and the divisional rival San Francisco 49ers in CenturyLink Field. After dominating in his career debut, Mullens has gone back to looking like a third-string undrafted quarterback. In his past two starts, Mullens has thrown for 471 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions.
San Francisco’s offense as a whole has dropped with Mullen’s lack of production. In Week 12, the unit managed to put up just nine points against a terrible Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense. Seattle’s defense is considerably better than Tampa’s, so they should put together a good outing in Week 13.
Green Bay Packers
Much like the Seattle Seahawks, the Green Bay Packers defense is a smart matchup start. The unit struggles against good offenses like the Minnesota Vikings but managed to shut down the subpar units. Entering Week 13, it’s hard to find a more favorable matchup than the Packers.
The Green Bay Packers have the fortune of playing an Arizona Cardinals offense that’s still trying to figure out what it is. While installing Byron Leftwich as offensive coordinator helped, this team is still a work in progress. Rookie quarterback Josh Rosen is learning on the fly and prone to rookie mistakes while the rest of the team isn’t talented enough to make up for his inexperience. In all, the Cardinals offense averages just 14.1 points per game. Stopping this offense should be easy work for the Packers defense.
Tennessee Titans
Start any defense that plays against the New York Jets. The Titans defense has been inconsistent in terms of fantasy production. One week, they limit the New England Patriots to 10 points while recording three sacks. The next, they give up 38 points to the Indianapolis Colts without recording a sack or a turnover. However, despite the variance in performance, it’s safe to predict the Titans defense putting together a big showing in Week 13.
The New York Jets have one of the worst overall offenses in the entire league. The quarterback will either be the underwhelming Josh McCown or the inexperienced Sam Darnold. The Titans should be able to take advantage of whichever quarterback gets the start, as neither player is that good at this point in their respective careers. The Titans run defense is one of the best in the league, so New York probably won’t be able to run effectively. Because of this, McCown or Darnold will likely throw the ball more than they should. Look for the Titans to take advantage of these extra opportunities.
