After being released about a month ago by the New York Giants, Brandon Marshall has found a new team. He announced via his Instagram that he is joining the Seattle Seahawks… by wearing a Seahawks jersey. His signing has since been confirmed by Adam Schefter, among others. This will be the sixth team of his career. The deal is a fairly small one, lasting one year and worth up to only $2 million based on incentives.

Brandon Marshall Signs One-Year Deal with Seattle Seahawks
Given that the Seahawks have not been known for having big names on their receiver depth chart lately (and the offense has sometimes suffered for it), this might end up being a good move for both sides. Marshall essentially only has to fight off Tyler Lockett and Paul Richardson for a role alongside Doug Baldwin. And Russell Wilson might finally have a more reliable receiver to throw to besides Baldwin (especially with tight end Jimmy Graham leaving this off-season).
Marshall has had a journeyman’s career, though much of it has not been for lack of skills. He was drafted in 2006 by the Denver Broncos. Between then and his signing with Seattle, he has also played for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, and the Giants. He played most of those seasons with quarterback Jay Cutler on both the Broncos and Bears.
His most recent season with the Giants did not go that well. He only put up 154 yards with no touchdowns in five games before being lost to injury for the season. That was despite being only two years removed from a 1,500-yard season. One does have to wonder how much of that was the result of a Giants offense that was struggling to begin with. That said, it’s still probably fair to say his best years are behind him.
Marshall has a career total of 12,215 receiving yards and 82 touchdowns in 12 seasons. He is also not too far from joining the club of 1,000 catches, currently having 959. He will look to surpass that mark this season if he can become a big enough part of the rotation. While he may be 34 and not be a #1 receiver anymore, he still may have something yet to contribute, especially for a team that was a bit receiver-needy.
