Exclusive Interview with Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Lorenzo Allen

How has getting ready for the draft been for you?
“Getting ready for the draft has been good. Definitely hard work, I trained at SixZeroStrength  but it got cut short due to a injury. That’s not an issue because I’m all the way 100 now. The injury made me love the game a lot more.”
Speaking of love for the game, have you been able to take a step back and appreciate the fact that you’re getting ready to potentially become an NFL athlete?

“Definitely. It’s been a dream of mine my whole life, I will never take it for granted no matter what happens in the draft I will remain humble and continue to work hard to be the best I can be because it took so much to get here all the trails and tribulations.”

You only started playing as an offensive lineman at Junior college, correct?

“Yes, I started as a defensive end. I switched junior college and my team needed me to play on the offensive line and I made the move despite other offers, in order to help my team.”

Having transitioned from North Alabama to Northwestern Oklahoma State, have you found it easy to translate your game from roster to roster and scheme to scheme?

“Definitely. I’m a quick learner, I picked up schemes quickly. I mean it was a tough road but I made it work.”

Do you think that having played in multiple schemes in college you are already accustomed to a the ever changing industry that is professional football?

“Not really I know it’s going to be a tough transition from college to the NFL no matter the different schemes I played in. But, this is what I been doing my whole life so I’m prepared to grind in order to play the game I love.”

Have you got any particular asset of your game that you are particularly proud of?

“Yes, being aggressive and able to adapt in any situation.”

Is there anybody who’s game you see some of yourself in?

Tyron Smith. His athleticism and aggressiveness are things I try and replicate. Once he gets his hands on you he won’t let go, very strong with his hands and if you see my film I’ll grab you and try to pancake you in a similar way as Smith can.”

If you could be a part of any offensive line from history, which would you pick and why?

Dallas Cowboys from 2016. They were dominant, so good they made their rookies look unstoppable. They have the chance to build a dynasty like the old Cowboys’ line did. That was the first year, so it is only going to improve along the years with the players they’ve got and the ones they’re about to get this draft.”

If you could block for any current NFL running back, who would it be and why?

Todd Gurley, the guy is a beast and he is only going to get better.”

Have you been a fan of a professional team since you were young?

“The Broncos. I’m from Denver they have always been my team.”

What’s the coolest thing football has allowed you to do?

“Honestly, to make everybody especially the kids happy. They really look up to you like a hero.”

Is there anything that people who haven’t necessarily read about you won’t know about you, that you think they should?

“I’m a survivor. I’ve been through everything and I’ve never gave up. Especially with my mom having Multiple Sclerosis, I play for her. I always keep her picture in a QB wrist band.”

When that NFL paycheck gets cashed, what’ll be the first thing you do?

“Buy my mom a house.”
