Report: Darrelle Revis Injured During Altercation in Pittsburgh
But there are conflicting reports about what ultimately transpired. WTAE in Pittsburgh is reporting that Revis was approached by two people who began recording him with their cell phone. A conflict ensued when Revis snatched the phone and tossed it away.
Later, a friend of Revis approached and attacked them. Both were admitted to a local hospital with one of the victims reportedly suffering broken bones around the eye.
This account is corroborated by an officer patrolling the area at the time. He stated that he initially saw Revis talking to two individuals. When he returned a short time later, they were unconscious on the ground and Revis had left the scene.
The WTAE story says that Revis is under investigation with police considering filing felony charges.
Revis’ lawyer Blaine Jones released the following statement in response to the situation:
“Mr. Revis came home to Pittsburgh this past weekend to visit family and friends. During that time, Mr. Revis went by a location in the South Side that he is in the process of developing,” Jones stated via email. “Mr. Revis was physically assaulted while at that location by a group of at least five people. Mr. Revis feared for his safety and retreated from the aggressors.”
The Jets defensive back is coming off one of the most disappointing seasons of his career. He managed just a single interception and was ranked 66th among cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus. There was talk about the possibility of the seven-time Pro Bowler moving to safety in 2017.
Revis signed a lucrative five-year, $70 million contract with $39 million guaranteed during free agency in 2015. $6 million of his 2017 salary is included in those guarantees. He carries a $15.33 cap number for the upcoming season and has three years remaining on his current deal.
