On Wednesday Anderson missed practice with the Broncos in order to meet with doctors for a second opinion regarding his knee injury, and to determine how much time he’ll need to recover.

Anderson apparently played through the knee injury on Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans. In fact, Anderson had his best game of the season, rushing for 107 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown, helping the Broncos to improve to 5-2 on the season.

We’re trying to evaluate it more than anything,” Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said after the Broncos practice. “He played through it. He played extremely well. He was our offensive MVP. He played really well. He came in really sore the day after. So we’re trying to evaluate exactly where he’s at.”

With Anderson unable to go against the San Diego Chargers, the Broncos will have to go with rookie running back Devontae Booker. The rookie had quite a game against the Texans himself on Monday night, rushing for 83 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown.

If Anderson is expected to miss an extended period of time Booker will have a chance to step up and become the Broncos workhorse. On the season, the rookie has rushed for 244 yards and one touchdown, while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Booker was Denver’s fourth-round draft pick out of Utah State, and has shown to be very impressive.

C.J. Anderson was signed by the Broncos in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of the University of California. In four years with the Broncos, Anderson has rushed for 2,044 yards with 17 touchdowns, while averaging 4.6 yards per carry, along with 75 catches for 635 yards and three touchdown receptions.
