While Season 8 is about to kick off with three races this month, 2023 and Gen3 news will be prominent in April for Formula E.
March has been a quiet month for Formula E. After three exciting rounds, the series took a long hiatus while Formula 1’s start stole the headlines. But April is shaping up to bring Formula E back to the forefront with the next three E-Prix rounds, our first look at the Gen3 car, & more Season 9 team news.
This week, Formula E announced that seven car manufacturers are locked in for Season 9. Six returning manufacturers as well as the debut of Maserati, which was revealed earlier this year. This will be their first time in a single-seater series since the 1950s.

2023 Formula E Teams
Porsche, Nissan, NIO 333, Maserati, Mahindra, and DS Techeetah make the initial six teams that are both the constructor and racing side. Jaguar returns next season, powering their team as well as Envision. Venturi, Dragon, and Andretti are expected to participate in 2023, but have yet to confirm their manufacturer for next season. Mercedes EQ’s departure and Maserati’s arrival will keep the current number of expected teams at 11 for Season 9.
There are still rumors that McLaren could venture into Formula E next season. The company has an agreement with the series, but has yet to commit to an entry date. It is unclear if their arrival would see the series expand to 12 teams, or if McLaren would join up with one of the existing teams.
A Busy April Ahead
Formula E kicks off a busy April with Rounds 4 and 5 in Rome on April 9th and 10th. Then on April 28th, the Gen3 series car will be revealed at the Yacht Club de Monaco. The weekend and month will be rounded out by the Monaco E-Prix on April 30th. By the time we get to May 1st, we will have seen the next-generation car, have a good idea of the top contenders for both the Driver’s and Constructor’s Championships after six rounds and perhaps have an answer on McLaren’s involvement next season.
