David Desharnais Traded to Edmonton Oilers
An undrafted free agent, the 5’7″ centre signed with the Canadiens prior to the 2008-09 season after being named Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player while playing with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. After being called up midway through the 2010-11 season, he put up 22 points in 44 games played, and then 60 in the following season, cementing his spot on the team. Lately, however, he has failed to show potential, scoring only 29 points in 65 games played last season and only 10 points in 31 games so far this season.
Desharnais is in his eighth NHL season, all with Montreal. This is the final year of his four-year, $14 million contract. He has recently been a healthy scratch, sitting out a number of games under both Michel Therrien and now under new coach Claude Julien.
Desharnais is in his eigth NHL season since being signed by the Habs prior to the 2006-07, but didn’t make his NHL debut until the 2009-10 season. For an undrafted player he has had a very respectable career to this point, scoring 79 goals and putting up a total of 250 points over the course of 435 games in his career.
Brandon Davidson to the Habs
Davidson, 25, has played in 28 games for the Oilers this season registering just one assist. The left-handed defenceman was a 6th round pick of the Oilers in the 2010 NHL Draft. He has played in 91 career games with five goals and 13 points.
Davidson is signed through next season with a cap hit of $1.425 million per year. He is averaging 15:25 of ice time with the Oilers this season, but played considerably more (19:12) last season.
Davidson has a career Corsi For Percentage of 50.1 (+1.9 relative) and a Fenwick For Percentage of 50.6 (+2.4 relative). He has lower numbers this season, 48.2 (+1.1) and 49.2 (+0.6) respectively.
