The New Jersey Devils announced that Kyle Palmieri was placed on injured reserve retroactive to January 11th with a left foot injury.

Kyle Palmieri Injured
As the Devils look to get back on the winning track, they will be forced to do it without their All-Star. It is unclear how the injury occurred, but it happened sometime during Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals. Originally the Devils were calling the injury lower-body, but you can point to a play when Palmieri blocked a shot with his left foot. He went to the bench in some pain. This will be the third game in a row Palmieri will not play because of the injury. He already missed games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Thus far this season, Palmieri leads the Devils in scoring with 31 points (16 goals and 15 assists) in 44 games this season. For the second year in a row, Palmieri will be representing the Devils at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game. Unfortunately, he will not be able to participate in the event this year. The NHL announced Nico Hischier will replace Palmieri at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game.
Going Forward
For the time being with Palmieri on injured reserve, the Devils recalled Michael McLeod from the AHL. Even with the injury to Palmieri, the Devils received some good news. 2019 first overall pick Jack Hughes will return to the lineup after missing the last several games with an upper-body injury. Hughes will remain on the third line with Pavel Zacha and Wayne Simmonds. With Palmieri out, Miles Wood will jump up to the first line alongside Hischier and Jesper Bratt.
The Devils will again be without MacKenzie Blackwood as he continues to deal with an upper-body injury. After recalling Evan Cormier on Saturday for the game in Washington, the Devils sent Cormier down on Sunday and recalled Cory Schneider from the AHL. Schneider will back up Louis Domingue, who is coming off a victory on Saturday and making his second straight start. Schneider has won his last four starts with the Binghamton Devils. Since going down to the AHL, Schneider has a record of 4-4 with a 3.00 goals-against average and .894 save percentage.
It will be interesting to see what the Devils do once Blackwood is healthy enough to return.
Also, the Devils remain without Ben Street, who was placed on injured reserve on Saturday with a lower-body injury.
