The Boston Bruins hope they don’t have to live life without Patrice Bergeron. He is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury. Bergeron didn’t practice Friday after suffering a lower body injury in Wednesday’s 5-3 loss to the Washington Capitals.
Bergeron went down after blocking a Matt Niskanen shot off his inner leg, close to his knee. After struggling to get off the ice, he returned for two shifts, then left the game for good. Patrice Bergeron is fifth on the Bruins in points with 26 on the season, 12 goals and 14 assists.
Head coach Claude Julien hasn’t ruled him out of Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goaltender Tuukka Rask didn’t practice on Friday either. He said he popped his groin on Wednesday. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said that Rask was just taking a “maintenance day.” Rask will make his 12th straight start on Saturday if he plays.
It looks like the Bruins avoided disastrous injuries to two key players. Boston is currently third in the Atlantic Division with 58 points, just three ahead of the Leafs. The Bruins have a four day break after their game against the Leafs on Saturday, they then play three games in four nights.
