Patrik Laine Day-To-Day
Laine left Jets’ practice on Monday after suffering a lower-body injury. The injury occurred after he collided with Lucas Sbisa. Laine did not play on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks. There was hope he could play against the San Jose Sharks. Even though Laine was a full participant in practice on Thursday, things did not go well and head coach Paul Maurice ruled him out for Friday night’s game. Laine skated alongside Mathieu Perreault and Andrew Copp. However, Laine did not work with the top power-play unit.
Laine is tied for the team lead with 13 points along with Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers. Laine is in the midst of seven-game goal drought, but over that stretch has been able to rack up close to 19 shots over that period.
Looking Ahead
With Laine out of the lineup, Bryan Little questionable, and Adam Lowry serving a two-game suspension, the Jets will be down three forwards against the Sharks. Look for the Jets to up call up one or two forwards from the AHL. There is also a possibility the Jets could use 11 forwards and seven defenceman as well. Against the Ducks on Tuesday night, Jack Roslovic filled in for Laine with Little and Kyle Connor. Look for Roslovic to remain in the lineup.
The Jets received some news on the Dustin Byfuglien front on Wednesday night. The big defenceman had surgery on his ankle last week and will be out until the New Year. This is a positive sign for the Jets as he could prepping for a return to the ice. However, only Byfuglien knows what he really wants to do.
