Victor Hedman

The injuries are piling up for the Tampa Bay Lightning as defenceman Victor Hedman along with forwards Pat Maroon, and Anthony Cirelli are considered day-to-day.

Victor Hedman, Pat Maroon, and Anthony Cirelli Day-to-Day

During the Lightning’s 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, Victor Hedman suffered a lower-body injury. Hedman was injured during the first period and midway through the game was ruled out for the rest of the evening. It is unclear what caused Hedman’s injury, but his status for the game tonight against the New Jersey Devils is uncertain.

Hedman was not the only player the Lightning lost during the game on Tuesday night. Pat Maroon did not return against the Rangers after suffering an upper-body injury. Just 1:56 into the game, Maroon fought Micheal Haley. He did not take another shift following the fight before being ruled out for the rest of the game.

Another player missing from action was Anthony Cirelli. After practice on Monday, Cirelli left the ice immediately. He did not participate in the morning skate before the game against the Rangers. Head coach Jon Cooper labeled him as a game-time decision. However, Cirelli did not take warmups. His coach does not believe the injury will keep Cirelli out long term.

Going Forward

With the Lightning having such a quick turnaround as they play Wednesday night, there is a possibility of them calling up a forward. That forward could be Alex Volkov from Syracuse. That player could either take Maroon’s spot on the fourth line or fill in for Cirelli. As far as Maroon’s status against the Devils goes, the team is hopeful he can dress as he was feeling much better after the game.

With Hedman out of the lineup, look for Luke Witkowski to see an increase in his minutes. He was taking shifts on the blueline after Hedman left. Carter Verhaeghe went into the lineup for Jan Rutta against the Rangers.

The Lightning did receive some good news as Brayden Point, who was a game-time decision was able to dress against the Rangers. With Point back in the lineup, the team was able to avoid a massive blow to their lineup.
