Gabriel Landeskog Injured
It’s not certain what caused Landeskog’s injury. It may have occurred during his last game against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night. He played 20 minutes in that game.
So far this season, Landeskog has scored three goals and four assists for seven points to go along with 14 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 47.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -2.3.
Over his nine-year NHL career, Landeskog has played only for the Colorado Avalanche. He has 180 goals and 243 assists for 423 career points in 590 career games. He was originally drafted by the Avalanche in the first round, second overall in the 2011 NHL draft.
What This Means for the Future
This is another blow to the Avalanche who just learned that they will miss Mikko Rantanen for an indefinite period of time due to injury. He is listed week-to-week. The pair are a dynamite combo on the same line and this now leaves Nathan MacKinnon to find a new set of linemates until they have recovered from their injuries.
Landeskog is valuable and he was lost to an injury late last season for 4-6 weeks and now he’s missing again. He is the team’s captain and without him that leadership on the ice will be missing. Fortunately, the Avalanche are a deep team. They may be able to overcome two debilitating injuries to two key players on their roster.
There seems to be a wealth of serious injuries so far this season. Recently Vladimir Tarasenko (five months) also fell to a long-term injury as did Niklas Hjalamarsson (three months).
At this point all the team can do is make the best of it and try to stay competitive without two of their star players.
Easier said than done.
