The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry has been suspended two games for boarding.

Adam Lowry Suspended
The NHL Department of Player Safety made their ruling Monday afternoon after a phone hearing with the Jets forward. During Saturday night’s Heritage Classic game between the Calgary Flames and Jets, an incident occurred towards the end of the second period involving Adam Lowry. Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington and Jets defenceman Dmitry Kulikov are battling for a loose puck. With Kylington and Kulikov engaged, Lowry comes in and delivers an illegal check hit to the back of Kylington. The NHL put the onus on Lowry to avoid contact, which he doesn’t. Lowry will forfeit $71,138.22 in salary during his two-game suspension.
This is not the first time Lowry has been suspended. He was given a two-game suspension for high sticking Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg last season. Therefore, in the eyes of the NHL and CBA, Lowry was a repeat offender. Lowry admitted post-game that he regretted making the hit.
In 12 games this season with the Jets, Lowry has not registered a point. In 78 games last season, Lowry put up 12 goals and 11 assists.
Looking Ahead
With the Jets back in action Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks, look for the team to recall an additional forward from the AHL. The Jets are healthier on defence but still banged up. Nathan Beaulieu was back at Jets’ practice, however, he is still wearing a non-contact jersey. He is not due back in the lineup for several weeks. Patrik Laine missed practice as well as he appears to be nicked up. Laine’s status is unknown for Tuesday’s game against the Ducks. The Jets are looking to build off their 2-1 overtime win against the Flames from Saturday night.
