Edmonton Oilers Place Josh Archibald On Injured Reserve

Josh Archibald

The Edmonton Oilers have announced they have placed forward Josh Archibald on the injured reserve. This is because of a right foot fracture. Archibald is expected to miss 2-4 weeks due to this injury.

Josh Archibald Placed On IR

So far this season, Archibald has really struggled. Edmonton’s forward production has largely been carried by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The depth hasn’t produced quite as much and Josh Archibald is a part of that. This season he has no goals or assists in eight games played. On top of that, he has just a 43% CF% and the team is really struggling when he is on the ice.

In his career, Archibald has played 129 games. He has 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points with 44 penalty minutes in those games. Archibald has played those games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Arizona Coyotes, and Edmonton Oilers. He was originally drafted by the Penguins in round 6 of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft 174th overall.

Moving Forward

While we wish Archibald a speedy recovery, his production won’t be hard to match for the Oilers. Look for someone like Tomas Jurco to draw into the lineup. The Oilers have started way hotter than anyone would have expected and look to keep that rolling. However, the big guys can’t carry them all the way and they need the depth to step up.

The Oilers will still hope for a speedy recovery for Archibald to get him back on the ice as soon as possible. Getting him to chip in as a depth and PK player will be big going forward. For now, the Oilers will be focused on the current games and to keep banking points for the future.
