According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN the New Jersey Devils have agreed to a seven-year extension with center Nico Hischier worth $7.25 million per season. This contract begins next season and carries him through the 2027-2028 season.

Nico Hischier Staying in New Jersey
This is Nico Hischier’s third season in the NHL. Hischier has spent all of his career with the Devils. He has put up 37 goals and 64 assists for 101 career points in 157 career games. He was originally drafted first overall by the Devils in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
Last season he scored 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points. He also added 24 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.3 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of +5.2.
What This Means for the Future
This is a huge move for New Jersey in locking up one of their superstars of the future. If Hischier can continue to produce he could end up being the highest Swiss goal-scorer that has played in the NHL. Hischier has shown to be a guy who will put up at least 20 goals in a season. He has been a huge part of the Devils top line which also includes Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri. However, the deal comes after the Devils announced that Hischier will miss tomorrow’s game was an upper-body injury. He’s currently listed as day-to-day.
With Hischier now signed the Devils still have to worry about locking up Hall, who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Hall will undoubtedly be looking for big money from the Devils. The bigger question will be if the Devils have done enough to convince him to stay. They acquired a bunch of talent in the offseason including P.K. Subban. The Hischier deal bodes well for Hall’s chances of returning to Jersey. It shows Hall that they are committed to keeping lots of talent around him and that they want to be a legit cup threat soon. However, the Devils have gotten off to a very poor start this season and people are asking if Hall will want to stay. It will be interesting to see if the Devil’s are able to keep that top line together after this season
