Dallas Stars Injury Report and Updates

The past week has been a rough one regarding injuries for the Dallas Stars. Well, the entire season has been tough on the Stars when it comes to injuries. The Stars have suffered some of the most impactful injuries this season, and recently it has been guys like Jamie Benn, Jamie Oleksiak, Patrick Eaves, and Ales Hemsky. There has been both some good and bad news regarding these players and their current injuries.

The Good

The good news for the Stars includes that both Jamie Benn and Patrick Eaves returned to play Thursday night in the Stars’ 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Benn, who missed the previous four games for Dallas, was injured on Dec. 31, when it was revealed he had a foot injury. For a week and a half Benn recovered and returned to practice with the team before finally suiting up for last night’s match-up with the Wings. Benn has ten goals and 24 assists in 39 games played this season.

Joining Benn last night was fellow forward Patrick Eaves, who has had a great season thus far for Dallas. Eaves has 24 points in 42 games played this season. Eaves was injured on January 10 in the Stars tilt with the Anaheim Ducks. He and Ducks forward Corey Perry collided against the boards where Eaves then was ridden into the door on the Stars bench. He left the game and the injury was not disclosed but it could be considered to have been quite minor considering Eaves was back in action two days later.

And to wrap it up, head coach Lindy Ruff has announced that forward Ales Hemsky is doing well and is rehabbing successfully and should be back by March. Hemsky suffered a torn hip labrum back during the World Cup of Hockey which required surgery and ultimately five-to-six months of rehab. With March being his newly announced due date for return, it seems that five months was long enough.

The Bad

While Dallas gains both Benn and Eaves back and learns of Hemsky’s imminent return, there was still bad news. Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak, who left the January 10 game against Anaheim will be out for a total of three-to-six weeks per head coach Lindy Ruff. Oleksiak suffered a hand injury in game and left immediately. The details behind the injury are unknown and have only been labeled as a “hand injury”. With three-to-six weeks being his timetable for return, Oleksiak, at the earliest can be back mid-February, and at the latest- early March.

All in all, injuries have not been kind to Dallas this year. The Stars, who have been having rough enough this year as it is, need to try their best to stay healthy. The team currently sits in 23rd place in the entire National Hockey League at 18-17-8. If the Stars hope to make a playoff push, not only do they need to start winning, but they need to gain all their players back and stay healthy, a task that is not easy to accomplish.
