The Ottawa Senators signed restricted free agent center Colin White to a six-year contract worth $28.5 million, or $4.75 million per season. This contract carries White through the 2024-25 season.

Colin White Signs with the Ottawa Senators
Over his 3-year NHL career, White has played for the Ottawa Senators. The 6’0”, 183 pound center has put up 16 goas and 31 assists for 47 points in 94 career NHL games. He has added 32 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Senators in the first round, 21stoverall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The Boston native has averaged 15:30 of ice time per game. His career possession numbers are 47 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.7.
Colin White’s Statistics Last Season
Last season was White’s first full season in the NHL. In 71 games played, White had 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points. He also added 24 penalty minutes. White’s average ice time increased from 13:21 in 2017-18 to 16:12 last season. His possession numbers were 47.9 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 3.4.
“We’ve identified Colin as one of our core young players who will help drive our team’s success in both the short and long term,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a press release. “Colin plays the 200-foot game that is so coveted in today’s NHL. He can skate, play on both special teams and is a character player and leader who loves hockey and this city. While he is coming off a season where he finished among rookie leaders in many categories, we also know he is just scratching the surface of his potential in this league. We’re very happy that Colin will be a Senator for the next six years.”
What This Means For the Future
Since last season was White’s first full NHL season, there is not much information to go off of to say what type of a player he will be for the Senators. While he did have a decent season last season, it is too soon in his career to tell if he can do it every season and maybe even become a better player. If he can play at the same level and eventually improve, it is a good signing by the Senators.
