P.K. Subban Suffering With Herniated Disc, Surgery a Possibility

Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban has been missing games on a regular basis lately with a reported upper-body injury. This has been revealed to be a herniated disc in his back, and surgery is looking possible.

Elliotte Friedman spoke on the issue during Hockey Night in Canada, “P.K. Subban has not played since December 15 and the word is he has a herniated disc, which the Predators have not confirmed or denied. He skated (Friday), didn’t go well. He skate again (Saturday), word is it didn’t go well again.”

He continued on to say, “So what we understand is the Predators, their doctors, and P.K. Subban will meet Sunday and decide a course of action. One choice is to just wait it out and see if he can come back to health that way. The other is potentially surgery and that could knock him out for a long time, which nobody wants to see. So there is obvious concern about his future for this season.”

With no timetable set, or even a confirmation if the injury is indeed a herniated disc, there is an air of uncertainty on when Subban will return. Subban has played in 29 games in his first season with the Predators. During these 29 games he has scored seven goals and has 17 total points. His 17 points is good for eighth on the Predators roster.
