Calgary Flame Prospect Topi Rönni Faces Criminal Charges Stemming From Rape Allegations

These appear to be very serious allegations against Topi Rönni. The team is making the right move in that he will not be involved with the team until further notice. Moreover, Rönni was informed today, Thursday, of him being required to attend court. We must emphasize at this time, the allegations against Topi Rönni have not been proven in court. Furthermore, Tappara released some details on the situation. The alleged incident happened more than two years ago, but the call from the court did come earlier today. In addition, it was stated that at this time, no court date has been given.

Calgary Flames Organization Statement

Following the news, the Calgary Flames released a statement. The statement said: “We became aware of a potential legal issue involving Topi Rönni following our selection of him in the 2022 NHL Draft. We take the matter seriously and will let the legal process follow its due course. We have no further comment at this time.”

At this point, it appears that both organizations, Tappara and the Flames, are doing their due diligence. Both clubs realize that these are very serious allegations and that the court process takes precedence over all other activities. Once again, it must be stated, that right now, this is a court matter, and no determination can be assumed on Ronni’s guilt or innocence. All parties are doing what they can to prevent distractions, why removing Ronni from the club is the proper decision, so the court proceedings can take 100% of the focus.
