In Pat Maroon, the Lightning get a physical player that is known for not being afraid to drop the gloves to stand up for his teammates and himself when he needs to. This has changed the momentum and the outcome of several games this past season.

Last season, he had 64 minutes in penalties and 135 hits. He added 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points this season. Those point totals are down compared to the 2017-17 season when he scored 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points in 74 games with the Edmonton Oilers and the New Jersey Devils. His possession numbers are 52.0 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.4.

In the playoffs, Maroon added three goals and four assists for seven points. The most noticeable goal was in Game 7 2OT against the Dallas Stars to advance the Blues to the Western Conference Finals. He added eight minutes in penalties.

Over his eight-year NHL career Pat Maroon has played for the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues. In that time, he has 88 goals and 118 assists and 206 career points in 449 career games. The Philadelphia Flyers originally drafted Maroon in the 6th round, 161st overall of the 2007 NHL draft, but he never played a regular-season game for the Flyers.

What This Means for the Future

In Pat Maroon, the Lightning get an experienced and physical NHL forward. While he has had an offseason for him, the average amount of points he gets is worth taking a risk on. Maroon signed a one-year deal with a rumoured intent of returning to the Blues next summer. If that will pan out is, of course, yet to be seen.
