There was a scary incident at the Prudential Center tonight during the New Jersey Devils versus Vancouver Canucks game. Canucks defenseman Philip Larsen was skating around the boards behind the net with his head down where he was hit hard by Devils forward Taylor Hall. Larsen was knocked out cold and immediately fell backwards onto the ice.

The hit drew players from both teams to fly down ice to the spot of the hit, where they began going after Hall and each other in retaliation for the hit. All while this was going on, the unconscious Larsen laid on the ice, being bumped into and slightly stepped on by the players in the scrum. The gathering was soon broken up and a medical team stormed the ice with a stretcher. Larsen was strapped in and immediately taken to a local hospital. Teammates Henrik Sedin and Brandon Sutter helped lift the stretcher of their injured teammate. arsen was awake and responsive and had movement in some extremities while he was leaving the ice. No other details have been released regarding Larsen’s injury, yet.

Larsen, 27, had four assists in 16 games this season. He was traded to the Canucks from the Edmonton Oilers in February of this year in exchange for a draft pick Taylor Hall was not assessed a penalty on the play. Hall, has been suspended once before back in 2013 for kneeing on then Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck.
There has been no word of a pending suspension for Hall announced yet, but there is no doubt the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety will take a look at the incident. Hall, who recently returned to the lineup after suffering a knee energy, has six goals and nine assists in 16 games played for the Devils. He was traded this off-season to New Jersey from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Adam Larsson.
